Hello, I’m Watermelon

International Watermelon Day is a phenomenon new to me, until this evening, it is one of my favourite fruits I have to say, and it’s health benefits are a force to be reckoned with. Watermelons are mostly water — about 92% — but this refreshing fruit is packed with nutrients. Each delicious bite has significant levels of vitamins A, B6 and C, lots of lycopene, antioxidants and amino acids; even a modest amount of potassium. Plus, this easy summer snack is fat-free, very low in sodium and has only 40 calories per cup. 

A versatile fruit you can eat it it plain, juice it or add it to salads – pair it with a salty feta or a creamy burrata for an exotic twist on a summer plate.

  4. A watermelon’s lifespan takes about 90 days to grow, from planting to harvesting.
  5. You can even eat watermelon rind! The green part is pretty good for you so why not give it a try.
